Call for Release of American Muslim Youssef Megahed

A letter was sent to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, by the ACLU. The letter was urging the release of Youssef Megahed. The ACLU is calling the arrest of the University of Florida student vindictive. He was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on April 6th; three days after he was acquitted of criminal charges related to transporting explosive materials.

The new arrest was based on the same charges as the trial and the arrest undermines the American jury system. There is a lack of due process for individuals who are forced to deal with the immigration courts. The ACLU says that the arrest and imminent deportation shed light on the flaws in our system. The jurors in the case are disturbed by the government ignoring the will of its people.
