Imams to Advocate Precautions for Swine Flu

CAIR has called on Imams to teach information that will prevent the spread of Swine Flu. They are to use daily prayers and Jummah prayers as a way to disseminate information. Imams lead prayers every day in 2,000 mosques around the country; this puts them in a unique position. They have the ability to reach a great many people with their message every day.

CAIR wants Imams to stay up to date on information and also possibly stress avoiding Islamic cultural traditions such a hugs or handshakes as a greeting. In times of crisis, it more important for people to protect the health and safety of the public than to adhere to traditional customs and Imams are in a perfect position to spread information.
